1. See what you already have
Use Stash Hub to catalogue your fabric and patterns so you can appreciate your gorgeous collection and never buy the same thing twice! Having your whole stash accessible in the palm of your hand makes it so much easier to shop your existing collection. No more buying something new because you feel too daunted to rummage through all the places you’ve stowed fabric. The cataloguing process itself may also help you rediscover pieces you had forgotten about and provide you with a new burst of sewing inspiration.
2. Spot trends (and mistakes!)
Always buying patterns you never make? Do you gravitate towards buying fabrics that you’d never actually wear? Seeing everything in one place can help you spot what works for you and what doesn’t so you can bear it in mind next time you’re shopping! You can also use the handy Stats feature in Stash Hub to see whether the colours and fabric types in your stash match up with the colours and types of fabric you sew up into completed projects. If there is a disconnect between what you buy and what you use, you could consider rehoming some pieces you can’t see yourself sewing.
3. Plan Projects
Get excited about gorgeous new makes using fabric and patterns you already own, before getting distracted by something new. Do you buy a new fabric with the perfect plan in mind then find you’ve forgotten what your idea was by the time it’s out the prewash? You’re not alone! Use Projects to save your sewing plans as soon as you think of them, so they’re ready to start sewing when you are. The beauty of Stash Hub being digital means that you can easily edit your plans if you change your mind. If you fall in love with a new pattern, you can use filters to see which of your existing fabrics aren’t yet assigned to a project, helping you to sew your stash!
Stash Hub and Sustainability
We appeared at the Sew Sustainable Fair in April – this was our first time running our own stand and it was super exciting to get to chat to existing Stash Hub users and introduce the app to more members of the sewing community. Massive thanks to Sarah of Olive Road London for organising such a fab event! Fingers crossed the Sew Sustainable Fair will be back next year.
Whilst we were at the Sew Sustainable Fair, I had the chance to speak to Zoe from Check Your Thread podcast. Zoe was able to record our chat and include it in her ‘Sew Sustainable Fair 2023’ episode of the show. We discuss what Stash Hub is, how it can help sewists get more organised and some of my own thoughts about stashes. I’m on from around minute 25, but I would highly recommend listening to the whole episode as it gives you a great flavour of the event and Zoe talks to lots of other makers and sewing businesses too, so it’s a great episode. Click here to listen to the episode online, or you can find it wherever you listen to podcasts.
