Another month, another exciting selection of sewing challenges to join in with! We hope Stash Hub helped you discover some some sewing challenges in January and February and encouraged you to get sewing. Read on to see what’s happening in the community with March 2024 sewing challenges.
March 2024 Sewing Challenges
Sew Yellow For Endo
Sew Yellow For Endo is more than just a sewing challenge – this event also raises money and awareness for endometriosis (which affects 1 in 10 women). This challenge is hosted by Jess @sowhatifisew, who I was lucky enough to speak to on an episode of Stash Chats. Jess does a fabulous job of running this challenge, and has raised over £4000 for Endometriosis UK over the past three years.
To join in the challenge, sew something yellow (or partially yellow), donate at least £1 to the Just Giving fundraiser and share your yellow make on Instagram and tag @sowhatifisew and #SewYellowForEndo2024 on 23rd March to be in with a chance of winning a fabulous prize.
Sew Frugal
This challenge, hosted by Ruan @theyorkshiresewgirl and Sam @frugalisama, is all about sewing on a budget. Sewing can be an expensive hobby, so this challenge aims to highlight the range of free patterns that are available and encourage you to sew from your stash. There will be a huge vlog tour for this challenge so make sure to search Sew Frugal on YouTube for lots of inspiration.
Pair a free pattern with a fabric from your stash to make a garment. Reveal your garment on 31st March on Instagram and tag @theyorkshiresewgirl and @frugalisama and use the hashtag #SewFrugal24. There are over 50 prizes, so make sure you enter to be in with a chance of winning!
Muckle March
Muckle is a Scots word meaning ‘big’ so have a think about whether you can tackle some of your big ideas this month! As with every Make A Garment A Month challenge the theme is open to interpretation, so get creative. Maybe you could share a big mistake and how you’ve fixed it, or let the theme influence your fabric choice and go for a large scale print.
Share your finished garment to Instagram and tag #MagamMuckleMarch #magamsewalong @suestoney @sewing_in_spain and @judithrosalind
Mend March
Do you have a mending pile to tackle? Challenge yourself with daily prompts from @visiblemend for the #MendMarch2024 challenge. Each day has a different theme, which you can twist to your liking! Post your visible mends using #MendMarch2024, the daily prompt tag and tag @visiblemend. This challenge aims to make mending visible in the community, so make sure to support others taking part in this challenge too.
Week one kicks off on 1st March, with prompts including ‘that’s torn it’, ‘collab’ and ‘flatter’ so there are plenty of opportunities to test out new mending techniques and ressurect your textiles.
Wear Happy Color
Learn more about colour theory and discover the joy of Dopamine Dressing with the #WearHappyColor2024 challenge from @katiekortmanart. Each week has a different theme to help you rediscover your wardrobe and build confidence wearing colour. Week 1 is monochromatic, week 2 is analagous, week 3 is complementary, building up to wearing ALL the colours in week 4: rainbow.
To participate, create different outfits using garments in your wardrobe and share them on Instagram tagging #WearHappyColor2024 and @katiekortmanart. Maybe you’ll discover your new favourite outfit!
Spring Clean Like a Sewist
Revive your sew-jo with the #springcleanlikeasewist challenge. Recieve an email prompt each day from 18th-22nd March to help you refresh your minset, audit your wardrobe, organise your creative space, plan for a successful year of sewing and feel inspired to create again!
Sign up before March 18th to receive every prompt. Complete the daily task and share your spring clean journey on socials using the hashtag #springcleanlikeasewist and tagging @digitalpatternlibrary to be in with a chance of winning!
The Bag Making Challenge
Ready to embark on your first bag making project? During the week we will sew up a fantastic zipper pouch that is perfect for beginners. This is a free tutorial from Studio7t7 so you’re sure to pick up some new tips even if you’re a more advanced bag maker. There will be live sessions in the Studio7t7 Facebook group so you can sew along with the tutorials, or you can just hang out and learn – you don’t need to sew to get involved with this challenge.
Sign up here for all the details on how to join in and win prizes.
Continuing Sewing Challenges
We’re entering the last month of the Winter of Care and Repair challenge – perhaps you could double up with the #MendMarch challenge for motivation to keep mending until winter finally ends. Have you entered Last Sewist Standing? Hope you haven’t succumbed to new supplies just yet! Did you #MakeNine plans for the year? How many have you sewn so far? Tag us in your challenge makes @stash_hub on Instagram.
