August 2025 sewing challenges work together to bring a theme of sustainable sewing this month. Use up your scraps for #OhScrap25 and Appliqué August, and revamp unloved garments with #AugustAlterations.
Find out more about how to join in with Instagram sewing challenges in this blog post. It’s really important to use the Instagram Tag Feature when tagging challenge hosts, otherwise they could miss your entry. We’d also love to see your makes and plans so please tag us @stash_hub in your Instagram posts too!
August 2025 Sewing Challenges
Oh Scrap!
If your fabric scrap bin is bursting at the seams, the #OhScrap25 challenge is exactly what you need! This a joyful sewing challenge all about turning those treasured offcuts into a fabulous new garment.
Whether you’re stitching something for yourself, your kids, or even your dog, the only rule is to use scraps from your stash. It’s playful, pressure-free, and perfect for all levels of sewists. Think of it as your own Great British Sewing Bee transformation challenge—full of colour, texture, and creative chaos.
Share your makes on Instagram throughout August, tag @cinnamondaisystudio, and don’t forget to include your location for a chance to win a prize. Let’s sew sustainably, shrink our scrap piles, and have a whole lot of fun doing it!

SAGAM: Appliqué August
The sewing community’s favourite monthly themed challenge has rebranded from Make a Garment a Month (#MAGAM) to Sew a Garment a Month (#SAGAM). The Sanskrit word “sagam” has multiple meanings, including meet, encounter, harmonize, agree, bring together, and join with – which really captures the essence of this challenge!
This month’s alliterative theme is Appliqué August – a perfect opportunity to try out some new embellishment techniques in your garment sewing. Why not use some fabric scraps so you can challenge stack with #OhScrap25?
Share your appliqué garments to Instagram during August. Use the hashtags #SagamAppliqueAugust and #Sagam and tag challenge hosts @suestoney, @sewing_in_spain, and @velosews.
August Alterations
#AugustAlterations is a slow fashion sewing challenge that’s all about reconnecting with the clothes we already own.
Find an item in your wardrobe that isn’t getting the love it deserves and identify alterations that would encourage you to wear it more. There are loads of ways you could get involved in this challenge – you could try shortening a hem, taking in a waist, mending or even upcycling a thrifted garment.
Share a picture of your Before and After to Instagram during August. Add #AugustAlterations to your caption and tag challenge host @the_snug_sews.
This challenge is bound to inspire you to alter your clothes in all sorts of ways! You’ll soon discover that alterations can be extremely satisfying (as well as super sustainable)!

#MyMakesAug25
Whatever you’re sewing throughout August, make sure to share a round-up for #MyMakesForTheMonth to be in with another chance of winning great prizes. This challenge is hosted by @sewmuchtodesign every month, so it’s also a great way to keep a record of everything you’ve made throughout the year.
To join in, simply share your sewing projects to Instagram with the June hashtag #MyMakesAug25, plus the challenge hashtag #MyMakesForTheMonth. Also tag @sewmuchtodesign and follow this month’s sponsors to support small businesses in the sewing community.
Head over to the Challenges section in Stash Hub if you want to get a head start on September 2025 sewing challenges – you’ll find all the details for #ShirtwaistSeptember2025 and #SewPhoenixSeptember25!
Continuing Sewing Challenges
I hope you’re still continuing with your yearly challenges and goals you set at the start of 2025! Head to the January 2025 sewing challenge round up for more details about all of these challenges, or check them out in your Stash Hub app.
Can you believe it’s been a whole year since the Whole 30 Challenge launched it’s most recent round? Did you manage to sew 30 yards (or metres) of fabric before buying more? If you’re still part-way there, you’re welcome to continue sewing through your fabric stack at your own pace.
