February 2025 sewing challenges

Sewing Challenges – February 2025

Hooray, we made it through January at last! I hope you’ve managed to stick to your new sewing goals so far this year. We’ve got a fresh new batch of February 2025 sewing challenges to get you feeling inspired to sew. Choose which ones you’re interested in joining and save them in the Stash Hub Challenges section.

February 2025 Sewing Challenges

Make A Garment A Month sewing challenge - no frills February.

MAGAM: No Frills February

Get back to basics this month with No Frills February. This is perfect for those of us that need some core pieces to bring some balance to our me-made wardrobes. Basic doesn’t mean boring though – elevate your projects with great fabrics and thoughtful details.

Make A Garment A Month runs with a different theme each month of the year, so you’ll never be short of sewing inspiration. This challenge is always a fun test for your imagination as the prompts are open to interpretation. You’re welcome to submit multiple entries and combine MAGAM with other challenges.

To join in with this sewing challenge, share your finished garment to Instagram during February and tag hosts @suestoney @sewing_in_spain and @yogabyrdsews and use #MagamNoFrillsFebruary #magamsewalong.

REFEBULOUS 2025

It’s time to give those forgotten garments and old textiles a new life with the #REFEBULOUS2025 sewing challenge! Host Marlies @madebyliesl does and incredible job of running this challenge – it’s now in it’s 6th year! That’s a lot of items reused, repaired and tweaked.

This year, there is a different prompt throughout each week of February. These take you all the way through the upcycling process, from imagining your idea, through making and to the final reveal at the end. Check out the full details of the challenge and how to join in here.

Marlies reminds us that upcycling projects don’t have to turn out perfectly. It’s all about experimenting, learning and having fun. To encourage you to try your hand at upcycling, there are lots of sustainable prizes from small businesses up for grabs!

Last Sewist Standing

Brace yourself for the ULTIMATE stash busting challenge. If you think you could sew every day and never use up your stash, this one is for you!

Last Sewist Standing has three different categories. Heavyweight is a total ban on all sewing supplies. No fabric, patterns or notions. Only new needles and thread. If that sounds a bit too harsh, you could drop down to lightweight. Still a total fabric ban, but you can buy whatever other resources you need for your projects. Rebels can take part in the independent category and make their own rules. Try and keep up the ban until the end of 2025 (or until we reach the Last Sewist Standing).

Host Lise has run this challenge for a few years now from gher personal account @miss.taeschli. This year this challenge is being hosted from @the.craft.camp.

Black Sewing Network – Black History Month

@blacksewingnetwork is celebrating Black History Month 2025 with a challenge to showcase Black pattern designers, both independent and commercial. Create a garment, bag, shoes, or quilt using a pattern from a Black designer.

Sew something using a pattern by a Black designer during February and share your make on Instagram by February 28th, 2025, 11:59PM EST. Garments must be worn by a person (no mannequins or flat-lays). Tag @blacksewingnetwork and using the hashtag #BSNBHM2025 to enter the incredible prize draw. Multiple entries are welcome.

Two winners will receive $125 cash or a gift card, chosen by random drawing on March 9th, 2025 during BSN’s Sunday Service Sewalong.

Join in, support Black designers and celebrate Black History Month through your creativity!
