June 2024 Sewing Challenges

June 2024 sewing challenge #SewFruity24

Sew Fruity 24

I’ll be hosting this challenge in my alter ego as @blossomsandwich on Instagram. This is a fruit theme sewing challenge designed to get your creative juices flowing!

To join in, sew any item with a fruit theme. You may have some fruit prints in your stash, but you could also use fruity colours, shapes or embellishments, so get creative. Share your completed sewing project to Instagram on the 30th June and tag @blossomsandwich and #SewFruity24 to be in with a chance of winning a prize from one of our incredible sponsors.

This is my fourth year running this challenge and I’m so excited to see even more fun and summery projects made up. This year the challenge will be bigger than ever, including a vlog tour and a fundraiser for the first time.

June 2024 sewing challenges - Sew Seven Together

Sew Seven Together

This challenge is all about the joy of sewing and discovering new friends in the sewing community. Hosts Judi, Mandy and Sam connected through their shared love for Beyond the Pink Door, and will be sewing up patterns by Sew House Seven in their subscription fabrics together. They are encouraging you to get involved and try a pattern by Sew House Seven – perhaps you already have the perfect fabric in your stash?

To join in, sew any pattern from Sew House Seven and share to Instagram on 7th July with tag #SewSevenTogether and hosts @running_sew_n_sew, @makeitsew2023, @sew.letssparkle and @sewhouse7. There will be lots to inspire you along the way, including a Facebook group and several vlogs.

June 2024 sewing challenges - Jamming June

Jamming June

There are several different ways you could interpret this month’s Make A Garment A Month theme ‘Jamming June’. You could have a jam session with your sewing friends to spark your creativity. Alternatively, this sewing challenge could motivate you to finish a project that has been jamming up your queue for a while or to jam another project into your busy schedule. Has a simple project or a lucky win got you feeling jammy this month? Share your garment sewing project that has got you feeling jammy in June.

There is a new Make a Garment a Month theme every month, so make sure to check back here and in the Stash Hub app to see what the prompt is for July. The June tags and hosts are #MagamJammingJune #magamsewalong @suestoney @sewing_in_spain and @septemberfaden

June 2024 sewing challenges - Sew Blood Pressure 24

Sew Blood Pressure 24

The aim of #SewBloodPressure24 is to raise awareness of the risks of having high blood pressure and what can be done about it, in memory of host Bianca’s (@beesilva.creates) late father. This sewing challenge is also a great opportunity to tackle some of those sewing projects you may have been putting off for a while.

To join in on Instagram, sew a project that has been on your to-do list for a while and share anytime during. Tag and follow host @beesilva.creates and donate £1 or more to Blood Pressure UK charity via Bianca’s link. Bianca will be picking winners for over 30 prizes so there are plenty of opportunities to win!

Check your project plans in Stash Hub to choose a project you want to finally get sewn up this month.

June 2024 sewing challenges - sew recreate the look 2024

Sew Recreate the Look

Jen @jenlegg_teescreatives and Sharlene @sosewdressmaking are back for the fourth year of hosting #SewRecreateTheLook #SRTL2024

Both hosts are inspired by using their sewing skills to recreate ideas from the high street, Instagram and designer brands. The sewing community has really enjoyed this challenge over the past few years, so lots of you must enjoy this approach to sewing too!

There are three categories to enter: best basic, best interpretation and best copy. This challenge has weekly prompts to guide you from your inspiration, through designing your project to sewing it up and celebrating your finished result. There are lots of prizes up for grabs too, so this sewing challenge is the perfect opportunity to push yourself and recreate a look that’s inspired you.

June 2024 sewing challenges - Sew What You Need

Sew What You Need

Instagram sewing community @sewover50 are hosting #SewWhatYouNeedJune24 which ties in really well with wardrobe reflections you may have had during Me Made May.

It can be tempting to sew whatever you feel like when inspiration strikes, but it’s important to develop a co-ordinated style to make the most of your handmade clothes and avoid ‘wardrobe orphans’ that don’t go with anything. You could work on creating essential basics, filling wardrobe gaps you’ve identified, create a capsule collection or tweak existing garments to bring them back into rotation.

Use the hashtag #SewWhatYouNeedJune24 and tag @sewover50 when you share your projects during June. There are no prizes for this challenge, just the joy of engaging with the community and the satisfaction of creating a beautiful and functional handmade wardrobe.

Continuing Sewing Challenges

In addition to the June 2024 sewing challenges, there are a few challenges that are continuing from previous months. Get inspired to rescue those sewing fails with the #SewingBinToSewingWin challenge, which continues to the end of June. Check out April’s challenge roundup for the full details. The Springbreak Sewing Challenge encourages you to sew something colourful and fun and was featured in the May challenge roundup. The Last Sewist Standing challenge has reached the Three Month Milestone – did you join in? If so, have you managed to keep up your fabric buying ban?
