So exciting to have Fauve on the Show! You’ll recognise her if you watched Series 9 of the Great British Sewing Bee on the BBC earlier this year. Fauve loves to keep her sewing stash organised, and I’m delighted that she’s enjoying using Stash Hub to do so!
Here are some highlights from my conversation with Fauve:
What’s changed since Sewing Bee?
I had an amazing experience on the show and came away with a wonderful group of friends. I was already on Instagram before the Sewing Bee but I’m a lot more involved with the community now and have a lovely following that are always so supportive. I love being inspired by everyone else’s makes and seeing different styles from the same pattern using the pattern hashtag.
How long have you been sewing?
I’ve been sewing for about six years now. I originally got into sewing because I attended a local sewing class with my mum. My mum used to sew a long time ago and giving it another go was something she wanted to tick of her bucket list. I ended up getting really into sewing as well so now my mum and I can enjoy our love of sewing together!
Has your style changed over time?
When I first started sewing, I tended to stick with simple styles, avoiding fastenings at all costs. I sewed on national TV before I’d ever sewn my first placket! Since the Bee I have gained a lot of confidence in my sewing abilities. Right now, I’m loving making jumpsuits! I could never find jumpsuits to fit in ready to wear shops, so it’s really great to be able to have the looks I want that fit me properly. With POCKETS!
What fabrics are you most drawn to?
FLORALS! Big, bold, small, ditsy – I don’t really care, it’s in the stash! Fabric Godmother new collection releases can be dangerous! At the start of my sewing journey I tended to stick with jerseys but now I’m venturing into drapey woven fabrics like viscoses and satins.
How do you organise your sewing stash?
I live with my parents so space is limited – my sewing area is inside a cupboard! My fabric is all sorted into different boxes, there’s a box of fabric that’s prewashed and ready to sew, a box of heavier winter fabrics, a summer box and a knit box of swimwear and lycra. Buttons are stored in boxes too, with different colours in each sections. I’ve got loads of Ethel and Joan and Pigeon Wishes buttons because I just love them. I’ll be honest, Stash Hub has been a godsend for me! I can check if I’ve got the right fabric for a project, I sit there filtering it all down and it means I’m not buying the same thing twice. I love it, it’s become a little hobby in itself!
