How Stash Hub can save you money

Sewists save money with Stash Hub

Stash Hub is super handy in a number of different aspects of your sewing hobby, but have you ever considered that digitally organising your stash could save you money? Sewing can be an expensive hobby, so I’ve put together a few tips about how sewing organiser app Stash Hub can help sewists save money by encouraging you to use what you have, shop mindfully and budget your spending.

Never buy the same thing twice

Hands up if you’ve ever bought the same pattern twice because you forgot you already had it! It’s so easy to do, especially with PDF patterns. Use Stash Hub search to check if you’ve already got something before you waste money buying it again!

Shop your stash instead of buying new

There’s always so much temptation to buy new fabric. Cataloguing your fabric collection in Stash Hub makes your stash much more approachable and allows you to browse own fabric as though you’re online fabric shopping. Already got a project in mind? Use filters to quickly see if you already have what you need. Think of your stash as your own personal fabric shop, perfectly curated to your tastes. The best part is that you already paid for it…so it’s basically free?

Learn about fabric types

Have you ever ordered online and the fabric type is really not what you were expecting? There are so many fabric types available and fabric weight can be hard to get your head around without a point of reference. With each fabric you record in Stash Hub, you can enter loads of information including fabric weight and composition. Try Magic Input to benefit from all the info provided in online fabric listings without having to fill in the fields yourself. When choosing new fabric, compare the description to fabric you already own to maximise your chances of success when investing your money in online fabric purchases.

Stick to a budget

Whatever your income, a sewing budget can be a really useful tool to help you shop mindfully. A set amount will have to last you the whole month, so you’ll have to think carefully about what you buy to avoid splurging on impulse purchases. This means you’ll curate a stash full of pieces you genuinely love and find inspiring. With Stash Hub Stats you can check how many fabrics or patterns you’ve bought each month, and tap to reveal how much you’ve spent.

Save your gift cards

We’re all about mindful shopping here at Stash Hub, even when you’re spending someone else’s money! Did you know, there’s a whole section in the Stash Hub sewing organiser app where you can save your gift cards? This means they don’t get lost or expire. Knowing your gift cards are taken care of means you can save it until you spot something you really love, meaning you don’t panic and feel like you have to spend it right away! You can even record who gifted it to you, so you can thank them and let them know how wisely you spent their money.

  1. Is it possible to list some of your stash for sale on this platform to reach other stash hub members

Hi Linda, no, we don’t offer a selling platform but I would recommend the Maker’s Web for destashing if you’re in the UK. You can set the status to ‘destash’ to easily see which fabrics you want to sell. If you tap the three dots menu at the top right of a fabric listing there’s an option to ‘copy info’ which will make it really speedy to write your descriptions. Hope this helps!
